About the NSS 2021

Published on 15 July 2021 by the Office for Students (OfS), the NSS 2021 is an annual census of over 332,000 students, studying at 397 universities and colleges across the UK. It runs across all publicly funded Higher Education Institutions in the UK, and Alternative Providers in England with specific course designation.

It is designed to enable prospective students to compare courses at different institutions when deciding what and where to study. Students completing the NSS 2021 spent a large amount of time studying during the coronavirus pandemic which brought with it increased anxiety, multiple lockdowns and online learning. As a result, a new set of questions were included to ask students about specific aspects of their experience of university throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
