  1. The Digital Futures Competition is offered by Northeastern University London (the University), based at Devon House 58 St Katharine’s Way, London, E1W 1LP
  2. The Competition is open to students who are currently in their penultimate year of secondary education (the equivalent of Y12 in England) and students who are currently in their last year of secondary education (the equivalent of Y13 in England) who are interested in studying a data science or computer science subject at university.
  3. The presentation should answer the specified question and end with a conclusion.
  4. Entrants must register here to participate in the competition. We cannot accept submissions if the student has not first registered.
  5. Presentations must include your full name at the bottom or top of your title page, and be submitted in PDF format. There is no word limit. Titles, references and footnotes are not included in the word count.
  6. Presentations should be submitted via the online form provided in the registration confirmation email.
  7. When registering for the competition and submitting your presentation please use the same name throughout and title your file: [Student First Name].[Student Last Name].[School Year].[Digital Futures] e.g ‘Alice.Smith.Year 12.Digital Futures’
  8. When submitting your presentation, you must state the email address that you used when registering for the competition, using a different email may result in disqualification.
  9. We will only accept presentations in PDF format (.PDF)
  10. The presentation must be the sole creation and original work of the entrant. The presentation must not have been submitted to this or any other competition in previous years.
  11. Any form of plagiarism will result in automatic disqualification.
  12. A presentation may be a reworked piece of the entrant’s coursework or extract of their dissertation, provided that it was originally the sole creation of the entrant.
  13. Shortlisted entries will be approved to warrant that the entrant is eligible for the competition. This will be undertaken by the judges once they have a short list of the best essays.
  14. No person may submit more than one presentation for each annual Digital Futures competition.
  15. Entrants may submit an essay for the universities essay competition and the universities Digital Futures competition.
  16. The award winners grant the University the right to publish or reproduce at any time all or part of the award-winning entries.
  17. The prizes on offer are stated here.  The award of all or any of the prizes lies solely within the discretion of the judges. The judges’ decision will be final.
  18. The deadline for the receipt of entries is 1pm GMT Monday 12th December 2022. Please note that late entries cannot be accepted under any circumstances.
  19. All entries will be acknowledged by email. Entrants who unsubscribe from the University’s emails will not receive acknowledgement of their entry nor will they receive email communications about their performance in the competition. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to provide feedback on unsuccessful entries.
  20. Winners are entitled to refer to the achievement on their CV and university application personal statement.
  21. It is anticipated that the prize-winners will be announced in February 2023.
  22. The decision of the Director of Admissions, Recruitment & Marketing on interpretation of these rules will be final.
