What are you studying? History with Politics and International Relations

Why did you apply to be an Ambassador? I joined the ambassador scheme as I decided to come to Northeastern University London due to the fact that they were the only university that had kept in touch and constantly updated me on what was happening during COVID. It reassured me knowing I had a contact who I could reach out to at Northeastern University London  if I was not sure what to do. As such, once I was here I wanted to provide that reassurance to any prospective students who had queries or worries on what was happening during the process.

What have you gained from being a Student Ambassador? I have gained Ambassador scheme experience in hospitality and marketing. Additionally, it has built my confidence in public speaking, making quick decisions and improvising when things do not always go to plan.

What are your future career plans? In the future, I hope to complete a Master’s in history focusing on the 15th century but before I wish to get some experience in the workplace and build up some money to be able to afford it. Being a student ambassador I have realised has given me many different experiences to be able to secure a job and my Master’s. I am now able to show my ability to manage my time effectively, help with managing both in-person and online events and quickly learn on the job when it is needed. All of these boost my CV and make me stand out in interviews

Why did you apply to be an Ambassador? I joined the ambassador program in my second year because of the flexible schedule and the possibility of working with various organizations such as IntoUniversity. I also wanted to take the opportunity of gaining experience working in both the marketing and recruitment sector.

What have you gained from being a Student Ambassador? I have gained a lot of insight into the world of higher education, and the people who come into it. I have also gained great communication, and people skills working with a variety of people ranging from members of faculty, alumni, and prospective students to younger primary school students and prospective university applicants in year 13.

What are your future career plans? In the future I hope to continue my studies, taking on a master’s degree in IP (Intellectual Property Law), and working with organizations such as the WIPO in pursuit of protecting the rights of creators at a global scale. The Ambassador scheme has given me the opportunity to visit various communities, engage with content creators both in and out of university and give me a taste of the labour market after higher education.

Why did you apply to be an Ambassador? I joined the Ambassador scheme so I could learn more about the university, get to know students from other subjects, and earn some money alongside my studies.

What have you gained from being a Student Ambassador? The Ambassador scheme has helped me gain confidence and given me the opportunity to improve my presentation skills. It also gave me employment opportunities including a summer internship, where I learnt more about how the university is run and how to plan events.

What are your future career plans? I’ve really enjoyed working with our Widening Participation (WP) department and I am considering working in WP or outreach programmes in the future. Being an ambassador has helped me learn more about the value of WP and outreach, and has given me the opportunity to work with young people and two charities: Aimhigher London and IntoUniversity.

Why did you apply to be an Ambassador? I joined the Ambassador scheme as I’ve always had a passion for helping people, and with the big transition of moving countries and starting a new course at NU London, I only found it fitting to join this scheme and return the favour of the warm welcome that many kind ambassadors in the previous year have shown me.

What have you gained from being a Student Ambassador? With the Ambassador scheme I gained a way of establishing connections with others which has allowed me to become much more confident in myself. Not only have I learned how to command a room, I also gained the ability to learn from others through conversation and listening, allowing me to be much more compassionate and attentive to others.

What are your future career plans? I aspire to be a lawyer based in Canada with my own remote boutique law firm one day. With the Ambassador scheme, I was able to gain more experience by developing the soft skills necessary for me to excel in my industry.  As I am now able to engage in conversations with all kinds of people and am more confident in my public speaking and presentation skills, I believe that being an ambassador has well-prepared me for such a career path.

Why did you apply to be an Ambassador? I applied to be an Ambassador because I really enjoyed the close relationship Ambassadors had with staff and students! When I applied to Northeastern University London, the Ambassadors I spoke to were so kind and helpful and I wanted to be that person for younger students and help them settle into University.

What have you gained from being a Student Ambassador? I have really been able to develop different professional skills whilst being an Ambassador, such as presenting and organising events. It’s also been great to make so many new friends and to bridge the gap between year groups.

What are your future career plans? In September, I will be going into the insurance sector and will start my work as a Broker. The skills I’ve developed as an Ambassador have infinitely helped me with my post-graduation career, and it is a great opportunity to stand out amongst other candidates

Why did you apply to be an Ambassador? I joined the Ambassador scheme because I wanted to help promote not only the University to external and prospective students but also because I believe in the University and its direction, and I want to support that motion.

What have you gained from being a Student Ambassador? The Ambassador scheme has so far enabled me not only to meet more people, from and outside the university but also given me the opportunity to work within different fields such as:

  • Social media (blogs and TikTok)
  • With children (the IntoUniversity scheme)
  • Giving tours and much more!

What are your future career plans? In the future, I hope to continue pursuing my studies either in Boston or London, where I hope to focus on Journalism or Psychology. Being a student ambassador has aided this as it not only has given me the opportunity to truly get to know the core of the university and what we offer but also by delivering opportunities I wouldn’t find as a student outside the scheme.

Why did you apply to be an Ambassador? I joined the Ambassador scheme to participate more proactively with current and prospective students. The scheme impressed me in that it was totally flexible, remote (if you want it to be) or in person. You can do as much or as little work as it suits you and the jobs themselves seemed rewarding enough, like touring around prospective students or helping out at virtual lectures. It seemed like a worthwhile extra-curricular that would help me integrate more with my peers and also be a handy little job to help with the shopping fund!

What have you gained from being a Student Ambassador? I have gained transferable skills, some unexpected, from joining the Ambassador scheme. An unexpected skill was learning how to use a professional Canon camera, as one of my shifts this year was to do photography for a university event. It also built my confidence over time after meeting so many new people.

What are your future career plans? My goals are to go into a creative industry, get a job that adds meaning to my life and enjoy life with family and friends. Being an Ambassador has encouraged me to talk to prospective students about what they want to do when they leave uni, which has helped me decide what I would like to do.

Why did you apply to be an Ambassador? I joined the Student Ambassador Programme because this programme was very beneficial to me during the application process. This programme made me feel less anxious about starting university and I signed up to help out a set of people who might have the same worries as me.

What have you gained from being a Student Ambassador? I have learnt how to manage my time more effectively because I had to balance university work with the buddy program. Additionally, working in teams with people that I have never interacted with before is a skill I have learnt because it doesn’t feel awkward working with new people.

What are your future career plans? I am interested in postgraduate studies. The skills that I have learnt such as communicating, time management and working in teams are skills that I can apply in the future.
