How the Mongols Created the Modern World

Attending a university taster lecture is an exciting opportunity to proactively explore and deepen your subject interest, above and beyond your school curriculum, and can enhance your future university application. Through providing a real ‘taste’ of university-level study, it can also help you to confirm your subject choice.

It is often assumed that Europe was the centre from which the dynamics and ideas of modernity emerged. Globalisation, political centralisation, religious tolerance, and the desire to go out into the world and to find and conquer new lands, have all, good and bad, been seen as specifically European phenomena.

In this lecture we will challenge this idea. We will explore the way in which Mongol nomads in the thirteenth century created a world empire across Asia, and will examine the dynamic legacy they left behind. A legacy that went on to transform the entire world.

This taster will also include an introductory overview of studying at Northeastern University London, and there will be ample time for Q&A with Faculty and Student Ambassadors.
