Terms of Reference – Teaching, Learning and Enhancement Committee (TLEC)

Context

The Teaching, Learning and Enhancement Committee (TLEC) reports to the Academic Board and has the responsibility to enhance the teaching, learning and assessment of all undergraduate and postgraduate (including postgraduate research) and Diploma programmes delivered at the University by overseeing and ensuring coherence across the various programmes.

TLEC maintains an overview of the curriculum structure, organisation, assessment, learning resources and delivery of all programmes.

TLEC contributes to the production of the Teaching and Learning Strategy, and the development and proposal of new policies, procedures and processes in response to feedback.

TLEC is responsible for ensuring that undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are reviewed and enhanced on a regular basis, using appropriate student, faculty and external expertise consultation.

Terms of Reference

  1. To ensure a high-quality student experience.
  2. To ensure robust academic quality standards of the undergraduate and postgraduate (including postgraduate research), Diploma programmes are being maintained, including the delivery and assessment of the programmes and feedback on assessment.
  3. To enhance the delivery and assessment of the programmes, by sharing best practice in the application of pedagogical approaches.
  4. To consider External Examiner nominations and propose to the Academic Board for approval and appointment.
  5. To monitor the actions from the Annual Faculty Academic Standards Report.
  6. To monitor the actions from student surveys, including surveys aimed at our Mobility students.
  7. To monitor, evaluate and enact the University’s response to external accreditation and regulatory requirements, including TEF and OFSTED.

TLEC may establish working groups as considered necessary to fulfill its responsibilities. The number of members of any such working group and the terms on which members hold and vacate office shall be determined by TLEC. Reports from these working groups shall be received and considered at TLEC meetings. Other members of staff may be invited as required.

Quorum

Meetings are quorate when the Chair (or alternative Chair) and 50% of the membership are present, including at least two student representatives for semester meetings.

TLEC meets at least once each semester.
