LEARNING AT NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY LONDON

Engage with the world, from the vantage point of a culturally diverse global city.

A person with curly hair and glasses is intently looking at a laptop screen. They are sitting indoors, near a window with a view of greenery outside. They rest their hand on their chin, appearing deep in thought.

Belonging Training

Belonging training and education for Students

At Northeastern University London, all students must complete the Belonging Training e-learning course, developed by Advance HE.

Supporting an inclusive university experience

This short, engaging course provides a foundation for understanding equality, diversity, and inclusion in higher education. It will also equip you with practical tools to:

  • Recognise and challenge discriminatory behaviour
  • Support inclusive and respectful interactions
  • Help build a welcoming, respectful student community

Why it matters

We believe every student has the right to feel safe, respected, and included – and this training helps us all play a part in making that happen.

You will receive information on how to access and complete the course via email.

Belonging education

Interfaith workshops

During the last academic year, our Belonging team has started inter-faith workshops for students and staff in partnership with the Rose Castle Foundation, specialised in reconciliation techniques, notably between those of the Abrahamic faiths. The practical sessions focus on techniques for creating dialogue between different individuals and identities and emphasise the importance of positive values in relationships, such as curiosity, generosity, empathy, gratitude, and creativity.

Hate speech workshops

In addition, working with CST, the Union of Jewish Students and the Aziz Foundation, Belonging has launched a series of workshops around hate speech. Each workshop unpacks how antisemitism and Islamophobia operate at the level of words, actions, and intentions. We want the participants to feel more informed about prejudice and empowered to bring positive changes to our campus community when necessary.

Partnerships

With our commitment to experiential education and impactful research, partnerships are central to our mission: from our work with the Refugee Council to our collaborations with LIFT (Leading Inclusive Futures through Technology), Citizens UK (the largest civic community alliance in Europe), and RTC (Rewriting The Code), we prioritise partnerships that advance our goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
