Work rules

Students who are studying at Northeastern University London on a Student visa are entitled to work in the UK.* This entitlement is restricted to a maximum of 20 hours per week during term time and full time during term break and include both paid and voluntary work. Students’ work must no interfere with their studies.

Students on visa are not allowed to engage in business activities (including self-employment) or work as a professional sportsperson or entertainer.

Working over your entitled weekly hours, or working when you do not have working rights in the UK, is illegal and can result in your visa being curtailed.

Master’s students

Full-time master’s students must be aware of the summer semester dates and ensure that they do not work more than 20 hours per week during the published semester dates. Master’s students must only work 20 hours per week during their dissertation period.

Students who are studying a master’s programme part time are not entitled to work.

*Some students who have a Tier 4 visa are not entitled to work in the UK. Please check your visa for your working rights.
