Social Researcher (Subject to approval)

Courses

Year 1

In the first year, learners are introduced to principles and key concepts of social research. They explore the social, political and organisational contexts in which social research takes place. Learners build a strong foundation in quantitative and qualitative research methods, and develop a comprehensive understanding of the lifecycle of a social research project.

The courses covered in the first year are:
● The Landscape of Social Research and Policy
● Qualitative Approaches to Understanding Society
● The Art and Science of Survey Research (with two-week bootcamp)
● The Lifecycle of the Social Research Project

Year 2

In the second year, learners delve deeper into research methods, learning to apply statistical techniques for data analysis and evidence synthesis. They explore the relationship between policy and social change, examining the sustainability and long-term impact of social research. This year continues to deepen their understanding of social policy development and analysis.

The courses covered in the second year are:
● Principles of Evaluation
● Statistical Methods for Social Research (with two-week bootcamp)
● Policy in Practice
● Power, Participation, and Evidence in Policymaking

Year 3

In the final year, learners look at social policy in a global context, considering the impact of globalisation on social policy and supra-national policy development. They explore current topics and issues in social research, including the rise of artificial intelligence in research methods. Learners deepen their knowledge of contemporary social theory and its application to policy. This stage culminates with the Capstone Research Project, a complex and extensive project to demonstrate learners’ abilities in social research and occupational competency.
