Biography
Akvile Sinkeviciute is a PhD researcher in Computer Science at Northeastern University London. Her work investigates how age-related perceptual and cognitive changes shape colour communication across the lifespan. By examining the interactions between lower- and higher-level colour vision mechanisms and colour naming, her research seeks to clarify how and why colour vocabulary diversity changes with age. She’s a part of the Colournamers Lab.
Her early work in cognitive linguistics explored how bilinguals’ active language modulates colour perception, providing a strong interdisciplinary foundation for her current research into the interplay between language, cognition, and vision across the lifespan.
Her broader research interests include visual perception and colour vision, colour naming and its applications, cognition and language, memory, and the impact of ageing on perceptual and cognitive systems. Through an interdisciplinary approach, she aims to develop evidence-based strategies to improve intergenerational colour communication and inform more inclusive colour-based design and technology.
Alongside her research, Akvile teaches Information Presentation & Visualisation as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Northeastern University London. She also contributes to the broader colour science community by volunteering as Communications Officer for the Colour Group (GB) and serving as a Colour Consultant with the Colour Literacy Project (ISCC–US).
