Biography
Emily Cousens is Assistant Professor in Politics and International Relations at Northeastern University, London. Emily Joined Northeastern University London in 2024 having held positions at Birkbeck, University of London, the London School of Economics and the University of Oxford.

Research
Emily’s research expertise are in trans feminist philosophy and the history of feminism.
Emily received a BA/Leverhulme grant for their 2021-2023 project: Second Wave Trans Feminism’s in Print. Emily’s book, Trans Feminist Epistemologies in the US Second Wave, was published by Palgrave in August 2023. They are now working on a second book: Before Trans Feminism: The Sex/Gender Politics of Virginia Prince and co-editing the forthcoming Routledge International Handbook of Gender and Sexuality.
Emily’s research has been published in Gender & History and Angelaki, and is forthcoming in History Workshop Journal, Sexualities and L’Espirit Créateur.
Teaching
Emily is the lead for Intermediate Politics and International Relations Directed Study and Foundations of Critical Thought. Emily also teaches on the undergraduate courses: Foundations of Western Political Thought and Introduction to Sociology.
Emily supervises Wellcome funded doctoral candidate Leila Sellers. Thesis title: The Beaumont Society: Trans Cultures, Identities and Everyday Subjectivities, 1966-2004.
