Biography

Tom joined Northeastern University London in 2022 where he is Head of Philosophy and Assistant Director of the Doctoral School. He has a PhD from King’s College London, a MSc in Philosophy and Public Policy from the London School of Economics, and a BA in Philosophy from The University of Manchester. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Before starting his PhD, he worked as a researcher for the Early Intervention Foundation (now Foundations) assessing the evidence behind mental health and parenting programmes.

Research

Tom works on topics in the philosophy of language, philosophical logic, and epistemology. He is interested in questions like: what is the relationship between knowledge, probability, and indeterminacy? How does the meaning of our words shift from context to context? How should we evaluate decisions with the benefit of hindsight?
