Research impact

Our researchers are leading innovative projects that cross disciplines, break new ground, and harness the latest digital technology to advance their work.

  • A vintage map depicting part of London, showing detailed street layouts, the River Thames, and surrounding areas. The map includes locations such as Westminster and Deptford, with intricate labeling of roads and neighborhoods.
    Mapping Black London

The Mapping Black London project sheds new light on the narrative that Black communities settled in London post-war. The research, led by Professor Olly Ayers in London and showcased at a major exhibition at the London Metropolitan Archives, has developed interactive maps that unearth the long-range Black presence in London.

  • A collage of diverse cartoon people interacting with devices. Each person is styled in mid-century fashion with vibrant colors like lime green, purple, and orange. Text in various languages floats beside them, along with colorful geometric shapes.
    Colour naming across cultures

Professor Dimitris Myonas’ research team works with the public to investigate the relationship between seeing and naming colours. The work, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, aims to develop a new colournaming framework to facilitate colour communication within and between cultures.
