Living in our Partnered Residence Halls

To ensure a smooth and supportive experience, London Scholars and Semester In students follow a dedicated housing process designed specifically for the programme. Here’s what you need to know.

All students are required to live in university-arranged accommodation managed by the Northeastern University London Housing Team. Students (and their families) should not make independent housing arrangements or book directly with residence providers.

In early May, you will receive a Housing Guide via email with everything you need to know about the application process and key timelines. The process is straightforward and completed in four steps.

Create or join a roommate group and submit any reasonable adjustments for accommodation (if applicable).

Select your room

You will be assigned a random time slot via the StarRez lottery system, during which you can select your room.

Your Residence Life team

Northeastern University London’s Residence Life team is a key part of your experience in our partner residence halls. We’re here to support you throughout your time in London – from creating a welcoming community through events and activities, to offering one-to-one wellbeing support, and being on hand in case of emergencies.

Full-time Northeastern University London staff living in residence

Our Residence Life team includes over 20 full-time Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs) who live on-site across all partner residence halls. As dedicated university staff, RLCs are there to support your wellbeing, provide guidance, and help you feel settled throughout your time in London.

Community building and personalised support

Our Residence Life team organises a wide range of events and activities to help you build connections and feel part of a supportive community. Through this, our Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs) get to know you as an individual throughout your time in accommodation.

All team members are trained in first aid and mental health first aid and are experienced in supporting students as they adjust to independent living in London and university life.

Programming and events

RLCs organize a wide range of events throughout each semester, beginning with Welcome Mixers and community dinners in the first few weeks of the academic year.

Our Welcome Mixers provide students with an exciting opportunity to meet other students they are living alongside and have proved to be excellent activities for forging friendships. Events at our halls have included pottery painting, quiz nights, football tournaments, movie screenings, and much more!

Dedicated Residence Life Advisers

Each student is assigned a dedicated RLC who is responsible for supporting their welfare. Each student has a minimum of three, mandatory, one-to-one meetings with their RLC per semester.

RLCs also provide a 24/7 on-call rotation alongside our Residence Life Leadership Team to support and assist students in the unlikely event an urgent incident occurs in one of our halls.

FAQs

Can I choose to stay in alternative accommodation?

No. The London Scholars and Semester In program is a residential experience, so students are required to live in university-sponsored and managed housing during the program. These live-in opportunities will be structured, and there will be live-in staff available 24/7 through various modes to ensure that students are supported in their personal and professional journeys.

Please note that any independently made reservations will be cancelled, and the university is not responsible for any financial losses – this may include forfeited deposits or other payments already made.

Can I book directly with the provider to ensure my preferred building and room type?

No, students should not book with the provider directly. NU London has secured rooms within our partnered residence halls for all students on Northeastern’s London campus. London Scholars and Semester In students are required to complete their housing selection through the outlined process on StarRez to ensure students reside within the carefully curated NU London residential community among their peers and live-in staff members.

Is a meal plan included?

No, NU London does not offer a meal plan. When in London, residential buildings will have a full kitchen (mini fridge and stovetop) in each student apartment. It is expected that students will fund and cook their own meals. This is the typical UK college experience.

Are there any additional fees and/or deposits required to secure housing?

No. NU London housing costs are included in the London Scholar or Semester In program fee. Students will not pay any additional fees or deposits to secure housing before or during the program. If any damage or cleanliness issues are identified during a check-out inspection, students may be charged after the conclusion of the program. Additionally, students cannot pay Northeastern and/or Northeastern University London to guarantee a room type or building.

What should I do if I require a Reasonable Adjustment for my housing assignment?

Northeastern University London is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible residential experience. Students with disabilities, medical conditions, or other qualifying circumstances may be eligible for reasonable adjustments – also known as accommodations or support services – designed to support their individual needs.

To be considered for a reasonable adjustment for housing, students must complete all the following steps:

• Register with Disability Access Services (DAS) and provide appropriate supporting documentation, which may include:
– Medical or GP letters
– Educational psychologist assessments
– Psychiatric or specialist reports
• Submit a reasonable adjustment for housing request through StarRez

Prior to Room Selection, students with approved reasonable adjustments on file with DAS will be offered a room that best aligns with their needs. If a student chooses to decline this offer, they may participate in the general Room Selection process, with the understanding that the room they select may not fully accommodate their needs.

What is included in my room?

Upon arrival, all London Scholar and Semester In students will find a kitchen and bedding pack in their room. Ensuites and shared apartments are provided with a kitchen packs scaled to match the number of occupants:

• Bedding Pack – duvet with cover, fitted sheet, pillows, and pillowcases.
• Kitchen Pack – pot, pan, mug, plates, bowl, cutlery, and essential utensils.

Please note towels and additional personal items are not included and must be purchased separately.

How can I tour the Residence Halls?

Students and their families are welcome to tour the Residence Halls, but advanced booking is required. All tours can be booked with the housing provider directly using the information provided below. However, please note that the residence halls are occupied all year round, and specific rooms and/or room types may not always be viewable on tours.
