Fees and Refunds Guidance for NU London Student Accommodation

Please note, the following information pertains to students on accommodation contracts covering the 23/24 academic year. Details for fees and finances for 24/25 will be released in Spring 2024 and communicated to all offer holders at this time.

Housing Fee Structure

As part of the contracting process, students will be able to select one of two payment plans.

  1. Termly, with equal payments due on 5th September*, 5th January & 5th April.
  2. Monthly, based on the weekly rate.
Alternative payment plans can be made available by the finance team on a case-by-case basis.
    *September start students only

Contracts will begin on the 2nd September 2023 for students starting in September 2023 or 6th January 2024 for postgraduates starting in January 2024.

This guidance provides clarity on fees and refunds for students who secure accommodation through NU London’s partnered student halls. In particular, where unforeseen circumstances may arise during the process of securing accommodation but before a housing contract is signed.

Guidance

Refunds for Inability to Take an Offered Place

In the event that a student loses their eligibility for NU London’s partnered student halls before arrival due to valid reasons, the costs incurred in securing the accommodation will be refunded except for the £200 housing fee. The selection of an alternate university will not be considered grounds for any housing refund. The determination of such cases will be made on a case-by-case basis, with flexibility offered wherever possible.

Housing Contracts

Once students have signed their housing contracts, these will be fully enforced and supersede the guidance on this page. Students will remain liable to these contracts for the duration of their contracted period. Exceptions to this can be made where a second eligible student is able or willing to take on this contract, but only where no costs or expenses are incurred by the university.

Withdrawal from Programme of Study

Should a student need to withdraw from their program of study, the University will facilitate their room and contract being offered to eligible students, but no guarantees can be made of successful replacements being found. The University reserves the right to release such students from their contracts should it fit with the operating needs of the University.

Non-Refundable Fees

In the event of withdrawal, no previously paid fees will be returned to the student.

Deposit

Students will receive their deposits back after the conclusion of their contract minus any fees or damages incurred during occupation. Where no damages or incurred fees have been accrued the University will return the deposit in full within 30 days of the close of the contract. Damages and fees will be determined by the housing provider in conjunction with the University’s Housing & Residence Life team. Such fees will not be punitive and will reflect the costs of rectifying any damage caused.
