Housing application process

Our application process is straightforward, and completing all three stages gives you the best chance of securing your preferred Residence Hall and room type. (Remember, housing is selected on a first-come, first-served basis.)

Don’t worry — if you don’t complete every step, our Housing Team will assign you to a room. However, we highly recommend keeping an eye on all communications from Northeastern University London and staying on top of deadlines to maximise your chances of getting your preferred Residence Hall and room type.

Stage One: Pre-Application Form

This is your first step and helps us get to know you better.

You’ll submit:

  • Your Personal & Academic Information – Helps us maintain accurate records.
  • Room Type Interest – Select the room type that best fits your needs. Your choice will determine the specific application you complete on StarRez.
  • Reasonable Adjustments – Inform us if you have a registered reasonable adjustment with DAS that could affect your housing assignment.
  • Please note that your submission of the Pre-Application and indication of room type interest does not guarantee that you will receive your chosen Room Type on Room Selection Day. Instead, it provides valuable insight for the Northeastern University London Housing Team’s summer planning.

Stage Two: StarRez

The next stage requires you to access our Northeastern University London Housing Portal on StarRez in mid-June.

But first, you’ll need to:

  • Create Your StarRez Account – You’ll receive an email when it’s time to set up your account. Please Note: You won’t be able to create an account until you’ve been imported into the system and receive this email.
  • Once you’ve created your account in StarRez, it’s time to:
  • Form Your Roommate Group – Create your Roommate Group for the academic year in StarRez before room selection. Please note: Students who selected a Studio as their preferred room type will skip this step in StarRez.
  • Join the Roommates Discussion Board – A great place to connect and find potential roommates.
  • Select Your Room on Room Selection Day – Pick your Residence Hall and Room Type directly in StarRez. (The process will differ based on your preferences and requirements, so be sure to read the guide carefully!)

Stage Three: Pre-Move-In Tasks

You’re almost there! Here’s what to expect in late July/early August

  • Confirmation of Your Housing Assignment– Expect an email with your final housing details a week after the room selection deadline.
  • Complete Induction & Sign Your Housing Agreement – Log into StarRez to finish induction modules and sign your housing agreement before moving in.
  • Room Swap Opportunity – Want to make a change? You’ll have the opportunity to swap rooms before move-in day. While you won’t be able to submit a response until the form opens, the room swap conditions will be shared with you on 25th July.

Frequently asked questions
