Our Summer School is designed to help you prepare for Sixth Form or College while giving you an exciting glimpse into university life. Explore your interests through engaging academic taster sessions, gain valuable insight into different subjects, and set yourself up for future success!

What is the Get Ahead Programme?

Taking place on Tuesday 29th July – Friday 1st August 2025, our four-day summer school programme is available for students in Year 11.

This Summer School is an excellent opportunity to help you get ready for Sixth Form or College, meet new people and to enhance your skills.

Are you driven, hard-working, and curious? Do you crave new experiences and love to challenge yourself? Worried about starting Sixth Form or College? This Summer School aims to give you a head start and help you get prepared for the years ahead. 

What will I learn?

In this programme you will:

  • Build skills to help you succeed as you transition into Sixth Form or College and beyond. Including sessions on study skills, wellbeing and budgeting
  • Participate in academic taster sessions including Law, Computer Science, Psychology, History, English and Philosophy, giving you an insight into studying these subjects at university
  • Experience a taste of university life, by spending time at our campus in central London
  • Get involved with a social activity out and about in London


Our friendly Student Ambassadors (current Northeastern University London students) will be on hand to support you through the programme and to answer any questions about university life.

When will the programme take place?

Tuesday 29th July – Friday 1st August 2025 from 10.30am – 5.00pm each day.

It will be non-residential so you will be expected to travel to our campus each day.

Where will the programme take place?

At our campus in the heart of London, Devon House, St Katharine’s Way London E1W 1JP.

How much does it cost to attend?

The Summer School is completely free to attend, including programme materials, breakfast and lunch each day and any social activities that you’ll participate in.

Travel is not included but we can offer reimbursements to those that meet certain criteria, you can find out more here.

Who is the programme for?

The programme is open to those that are currently in Year 11 and will be going into Sixth Form or College from September.

As students will be required to travel to our campus each day you will need to live within commutable distance to central London.

Reasonable adjustments

We want to make our summer school as accessible as possible and can offer reasonable adjustments throughout the week, such as access to a prayer room or coloured overlays for dyslexia. Our campus is equipped with lifts and disabled toilets.

You’ll have the opportunity to share any specific needs in the application form, but if you (or a parent) would like to discuss them before applying, please email us at wp.team@nulondon.ac.uk.

How do I apply?

Applications are now open!

Applications closed at 9am on on Friday 30th May 2025.

We will aim to notify you if your application has been successful by Friday 13th June 2025 at the latest.

If we receive a high number of applications, we will prioritise applications from those who are currently underrepresented at university. This criteria includes the following:

  • Attending an under-performing UK state school, which you can find here.
  • Have been in/or are currently under Local Authority Care
  • Are estranged from your parents or guardians
  • Eligible for free school meals (FSM)
  • Living in an area of lower progression to higher education or high deprivation (we will base this off of your home postcode)

Summer School Graduation Events

Our first Northeastern University London Summer School Graduation Event was held at Devon House in October 2021. Graduates received their certificates, mingled during breaks and attended information sessions with our faculty, current students and alumni. Lunch and refreshments were provided throughout the day.
