Biography

Dr Michael Peplar is Special Advisor to the Dean, Director of the Doctoral School (on secondment to the History department till 2026), and an Associate Professor in History. Previously at Northeastern University London, he served as Associate Dean for Global Experience and Director of Mobility Programmes.

Before joining the University in 2020, Michael was Academic Director at Boston University’s London campus, where he also served as Senior Tutor, and Director of the History and Literature undergraduate research programme. Prior to joining Boston University in 2007, he served as Director of the Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) London Centre, and as Director of Long Island University’s European Centre. He has also held academic positions at the University of East London, the University of Greenwich and the Open University.

BA (Hons) in History & Politics, University of York

Michael is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (elected 2012).

Research

Research interests include the history of ideas about family, marriage and gender, and English popular cultural history, especially as it relates to London.
